Years at Five Forks Athletics: 6

"Just to show up as much as I can"

When did you start at Five Forks Athletics?

"I started at FFA in October of 2020. This was a few weeks after my amazing, beautiful, and basically perfect wife was hired to start the evofit program, which we now all know and love as hybrid."

What is your favorite workout?

"Any type of long EMOM. I find them to be diffcult, rewarding, and yet fun when it’s finished. They are like a microcosm of life; you attempt to grind out and achieve a goal which you set for yourself. When you complete your first target, lit’s time to move on to the next set standard and goal. Sometimes you achieve your ambition, other minutes you fail, but staying consistent and focused and you are sure to make it to the finish line. Plus, you are blessed and fortunate enough, you get to push and achieve these aspirations with people who you have love and care for, which makes it all worth while."

What type of exercise were you doing before Five Forks Athletics?

"I did plenty of cliche “4 sets of 8” with classic cardio mixed in at standard gyms for years. I did a functional fitness style gym for two years prior to FFA. Although, as my form and strength suggest, this didn’t include any type of Olympic lifts or gymnastic work."

What are your health and fitness goals, and how is that going so far?

"Just to show up as much as I can, work hard for an hour, enjoy the awesome and well balanced programming. Have fun and enjoy all the love and community that exists in the gym. Give and take some good natured trash talk. Ga ga ga ga!"

Has Five Forks Athletics affected your life outside the gym?

"The impact outside of the gym has been immeasurable. The amount of true friends and acquaintances I have made over my time was unexpected and has been thoroughly awesome. These friendships have led to a surplus of fun times, birthday parties, bbqs and hangouts outside of the gym. Julianna, as well as all four of my kids, have also made a plethora of true friends they care deeply for.

Personally, the gym has also had a substantive impact on my coming back to faith and Jesus. As someone who had flip flopped, I had read plenty of new age atheism literature through college and the following years after. At the time I joined the gym I still had an open mind and a new slight lean back to the church. The FFA gym and its culture provided plenty of quality individuals to answer the numerous questions I had, and the direction to go to move towards truth and continue my faith journey. This was a truly unexpected occurrence, as I was expecting cliche Crosssift bros doing fake pull-ups all day when I joined."

Do you have any special memories or achievements during your time at the gym?

"First Saturday WOD experience. After my first week of CrossFit, I couldn’t move and a Saturday workout was unfathomable. Julianna suggested a run while she worked and she would pick me up on the way home. I obliged, and started my run. The run then unexpectedly concluded at FFA, as it started from Main Street in downtown Greer. An unintentional half marathon, as she forgot about me. The fam enjoyed chick fila as I struggled to survive 14 miles worth of highway 14, woodruff road, and plenty of cars narrowly passing by that were never her."
